The Grave of Foone, Farmington, Connecticut

The final resting place of one member of the Amistad slave revolt who never made it back home. Foone was one of the 53 African captives aboard the historic slave ship Amistad.

His limestone gravestone bears the following inscription:

"Foone, a native African, drowned while bathing in the center basin in August 1841. He was one of the company of captives under Cinque on board the schooner Amistad who asserted their rights by taking possession of the vessel, after having put the captain and others to death while sparing their masters, Ruiz and Montez."
